17. COVID-19 Catch-Up Funding

Following on from the one-off universal £650 million catch-up premium, of which St. Joseph’s received £38,720, for the 2020/2021 academic year and the £5220 received in 2021/22, the school continues to identify and support children who were impact by Covid lockdowns.  Throughout the academic year 2022/23 the school received £4748.75 as a ‘Recovery Premium’, paid in four instalments in October and January, April and July. This was to continue to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for missed learning.

Schools can use the Recovery Premium Funding to support any summer catch-up provision that they are offering and can carry any unspent funding forward to future academic years. In September 2022, we reviewed our list of catch-up children to provide the children identified with targeted small group support delivered through interventions either with a specialist teacher or LSA within school, covering phonics, reading, writing and maths. Particular focus was given to children in Year 2, 4 and reading.

Assessments made at the end of the year, for those identified as catch-up children, was that in reading 75% achieved/exceeded the expected standard and 100% made at least expected yearly progress. In writing, 74% achieved/exceeded the expected standard and 100% made at least expected yearly progress. In maths, 76% achieved/exceeded the expected standard and 100% made at least expected yearly progress.

Some of these children will continue to supported in the academic year 2023/24 as part of the Recovery Premium Funding Programme, with key focus being given to Years 2, 4, 5 and Phonics/Reading. For September 2023, we had reviewed our list of catch-up children and are continuing to provide the children identified with targeted small group support delivered through interventions either with a specialist teacher or LSA within school, covering phonics, reading, writing and maths.  The school will be allocated £5,945 over four payments.
